Wiki, Absurd Yet Successful: A Position Paper for CHI 2011 Workshop on Crowdsourcing and Human Computation

چکیده
THE WIKI MODEL OF COLLABORATION Over the past decade, a new model of collaborative knowledge synthesis and production has emerged: wikis, which invert the classical publishing model (review happens after publication, not before). Further, the wiki philosophy calls for extremely open access (anyone who can read the wiki can also edit it, and these edits are live to all readers immediately upon being saved) as well as transparency (anyone can see who made each change and exactly what was changed).1

Some Thoughts on a Framework for Crowdsourcing A Position Paper for the CHI 2011 Workshop on Crowdsourcing and Human Computation
First, some crowdsourcing systems add value because they can perform a task more quickly than an individual. Examples include von Ahn’s ESP Game [14] in which people generate textual labels for images, or Galaxy Zoo [7] in which people classify images of galaxies as spiral or elliptical. This is usually managed by recruiting large numbers of people to perform one or two very simple tasks, and c...
متن کاملPerspectives on Infrastructure for Crowdsourcing
Human computation has gained a lot of interest lately as a paradigm for solving problems that computers can‟t do yet. Crowdsourcing marketplaces are showing that is possible to get tasks completed in time with a modest budget in a wide range of applications. However, the infrastructure that is currently available for supporting crowdsourcing tasks is very limited. There is non-trivial extra wor...
متن کاملFast, Accurate, and Brilliant: Realizing the Potential of Crowdsourcing and Human Computation
INTRODUCTION Albert Einstein is attributed the famous inspirational quote, “Computers are incredibly fast, accurate, and stupid. Human beings are incredibly slow, inaccurate, and brilliant. Together they are powerful beyond imagination.” Crowdsourcing and human computation may be among the most promising new approaches for combining the unique, often complementary, strengths of people and compu...
متن کاملWorkshops Held at the First AAAI Conference on Human Computation and Crowdsourcing: A Report
Crowdsourcing (HCOMP-2013) was held November 6– 9, 2013, in Palm Springs, California. Three workshops took place on Saturday, November 9: Crowdsourcing at Scale, Disco: Human and Machine Learning in Games, and Scaling Speech, Language Understanding, and Dialogue through Crowdsourcing. The goal of the Crowdsourcing at Scale workshop was to identify the biggest challenges in very large-scale crow...
متن کاملDefining (Human) Computation
Human computation is a term that has been used synonymously with other related concepts, including ―crowdsourcing,‖ ―social computing,‖ and ―collective intelligence.‖ Defining more precisely what human computation means will help to distinguish its research focus from other subfields, and isolate a set of fundamental research questions to pursue. In this position paper, we propose a definition ...
